Job Title:               Experiential Tour Guide

Reports to:           Site Manager

Term:                     July 4 – September 03, 2022; 8-9 weeks; 8:30 am – 5:00 pm

Job Objective:      Provide historical tours and share the history of railroading on PEI and the natural history while visitors                                                      enjoy riding the speeder and trolley around the original “wye”

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be a reliable, enthusiastic and friendly representative of the Elmira Railway Museum
  • Assist with the operation of the handcar
  • Provide maintenance (as needed) on the speeder track
  • Remove ties and rails from the miniature train track
  • Safely operate equipment such as lawnmower, grass trimmer and ATV and provide maintenance on each
  • Maintain site cleanliness and safety protocols

Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of local services and attractions
  • Knowledge of and enthusiasm for local railway history and natural history and desire to share it
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including reliability and respect for others
  • Basic knowledge of grooming equipment; capable of safely operating
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, responsible and respectful of all safety concerns
  • Ability to recognize minor concerns or issues as they arise onsite
  • Must be a student returning to school Fall 2022; minimum of 15 years of age

Asset Qualifications:

  • Bilingual
  • First Aid

 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be able to work holidays and weekends
  • Must be physically fit and able to work on the track
  • Steel-toed work boots required for Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act

Pay rate:  $13.70/hour

Job Title:
              Site Maintenance Worker

Reports to:           Site Manager
Term:                     May 30 – August 20, 2022 (1 position); July 4 – September 24, 2022 (1 position)

Job Objective:   Maintain and operate mechanical equipment while providing exceptional customer service

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be a reliable, enthusiastic and friendly representative of the Elmira Railway Museum
  • Operate the speeder train while maintaining safety protocols; must announce safety instructions prior to each ride
  • Provide maintenance on the speeder track to ensure safety for all riders
  • Maintain and repair mechanical equipment such as: speeder, ATV, handcar, lawnmowers and grass trimmer (Note: Major repairs are outsourced)
  • Remove ties and rails from the miniature track, in preparation for construction work to begin in September
  • Cut and trim grass & maintain site cleanliness; Other maintenance duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Must be over 30 years of age and require insurable hours
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and demonstrate great problem-solving skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including reliability and respect for others
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, be responsible and follow all safety protocols
  • Basic knowledge of grooming equipment; capable of safely operating and repairing this equipment
  • Work well with others; work independently without a lot of supervision


Asset Qualifications:

  • Bilingual
  • First Aid

 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Driver’s license required for insurance purpose to drive the speeder train
  • Criminal record check required
  • Steel-toed work boots required for Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act
  • Must be physically fit to work on the track in the summer heat
  • Must be able to work holidays and weekends

Pay range:  $14 – $15/hour                   Hours:  8:30 am – 5:00 pm
