Souris Town Council plans to present their 2020-2021 Budget to the Public at their April 14th, 2020 Council meeting.  It was originally planned for March 23rd but due to recommendations from our Public Chief Health Office that meeting has been cancelled.

As always, the public is invited to attend.

Please speak to one of your Town Councillors if you have something you feel should be considered in our upcoming budget.

They include:

Mayor JoAnne Dunphy, Deputy Mayor Kenny Peters, Councillors Thelma MacDonald, Wanda Bailey, Ian MacDonald, Frankie Chaisson and Boyd Leard.

We will monitor the situation with COVID-19 and update as necessary.

A couple of major projects are planned for our water and sewer department and they include the replacement of our Breakwater Street sewer lift station as well as a new sewer treatment plant facility.  Both of these projects are being cost shared with Provincial, Federal and Municipal dollars.  In particular the Direct Allocation Gas Tax Fund and the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP).

You will also see the completion of our Souris Beach Gateway Park Boardwalk extension which was funded by ACOA and the PEI Community Revitalization Program and the Town of Souris.  Still a few minor things need to be completed before opening it to the public: access ramp from parking area, interpretive signage and landscaping.

And our Municipality along with the Rural Fire District have been accumulating Reserve funds for the purchase of a new Firetruck.  Within the next 1 – 2 years we plan to purchase a new truck for our fleet in order to provide even better Fire Protection to the residents of Souris and surrounding Rural Fire District.
